Any of the following situations are considered emergencies:

- Fires in waste collection facilities, containers, or vehicles.
- Serious accidents: natural disasters or traffic accidents (pedestrian accidents, damage to vehicles  during the waste collection process).
- Recycling bins occupying vehicle traffic lanes or impeding the free movement of people or goods.
- Environmental issues (e.g., leachate spills on public roads, abnormal odors causing discomfort to the population).
- Acts of vandalism against people and property.

Electronic waste is the central theme of the European Week for Waste Reduction
The European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) takes place from November 22nd to 30th and, this year, focuses on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), under the motto "Turn on the value. Turn off the waste". The objective is to draw attention to the accelerated growth of electronic waste in the European Union, raising awareness among citizens, companies and organizations for more sustainable consumption and management practices for this equipment.

Selective collection increased by 5% in 2023
Total selective collection increased and unsorted collection decreased EGF, the company responsible for the treatment and recovery of urban waste in 174 municipalities in mainland Portugal and 60% of the population, recorded a 5% increase in total selective collection in 2023, including packaging, wood, bio-waste and bulky items.
